ZungAlexia History | Alexandrian Resistance

The Resistance Alliance

REBELLION! Citizens on the Imperial colony world of Alexandrus (ZungAlexia IV) rise up and arm themselves against the oppressive Imperial regime after having their peaceful protests violently put down. In a mere five years they create an organized resistance to fight for freedom on their world.

1520 IA (1727 CE)

19-24 Tetribrium – On Alexandrus, Imperial Colonial Police (ICP) attempt to break-up a peaceful anti-government demonstration in Constitution Plaza in the colonial capital of Veronica. After more than five hours of vicious assaults on the first day, the demonstrators begin fighting back. Over the course of the next four days citizens from all walks of life in the city join the people from the initial demonstration, fighting the ICP, forcing them to retreat from the streets across the capital. This first “armed” engagement between disgruntled, disenfranchised Imperial citizens and ICP marks the beginning the “Alexandrian Resistance”.

Early Summer - Despite increased protests, the Imperator lifts the suspension on colonila legislatures on Alexandrus but with severe restrictions.

Over the next six months as non-violent protests are broken up by violent actions committed by the ICP, armed resistance cells form on Alexandrus, attacking Imperial Colonial Police stations and prisons. Some of these cells are secretly supported by influential colonists and in some cases indirectly supported by individual members of the Zel’Koni Order, even though the Order has taken an unofficial stance of neutrality.

26 Decimbrium - As the resistance cells attack the ICP; prominent colonists, including some colonial legislative leaders, rendezvous in Merassippi Nava for a second meeting of the “Colonial Convention” and over several months, discuss possible solutions to issues facing Alexandrus. Ultimately, they decide that they need to petition the Imperator for reprieve and persuade resistance cells & their supporters, to at least, curtail their activites so the issues facing the colonies could be resolved peacefully.

1521 IA

Throughout the year and despite the ICMC’s attempts to destroy it, the revolt continues to grow. The various independent resistance cells on th ecolony world score major victories but also suffer devastating defeats with some cells completely destroyed but the remaining cells fight on for the causes of freedom and justice.

25 Septimbrium - Three months after the Imperator's proclamation for suppressing the “Veronica Rebellion”, prominent citizens (appointed by their colonial legislatures as envoys) convene the third meeting of the Colonial Convention in Merassippi Nava on Alexandrus to represent them and all Alexandrian citizens for the purpose of providing a unified voice in restoring peace between Alexandrus and the Imperium. Also present are high ranking members of some of the larger resistance cells.

ICMC and Imperial Army units are able to destroy dozens of small resistence cells and kill or capture small numbers of individuals involved in larger cells.

1523 IA (1730 CE)

The gains made by the ICMC, with assistance from the Imperial Army against the “Veronica Rebellion” on Alexandrus during 1522 and the early half of 1523 are all lost to the rebels over the course of the year. Even as the victories mount up, the Colonial Convention, now meeting in Pacfield, is able to persuade various resistance leaders in having their cells assume a defensive posture so the Convention can try to negotiate a truce with the Imperium.

4 Tetribrium – Members of the Colonial Convention hand-deliver the Convention’s “Citizens' Plea” petition to the Granda Palee on Zungzamia. Within days of its delivery, the Imperator tears the petition in half and then executes the lead member of the Convention delegation using the Imperial Sabre while the four remaining members are imprisoned.

24 Tetribrium – Imperator Zekhar Cassius issues Imperial Decree 1524-636, formally titled “A Decree on the Rescinding of the Colonial Charters and the Dissolution of the Colonial Legislatures”, which declares in consequence to the “ongoing, unsuppressed, and widespread rebellion against him”, and thus the Imperium, on Alexandrus, the Imperial Charters previously granted to the colonies were rescinded, the colonial legislatures were dissolved and the appointed Imperial Governors are granted full executive and legislative authority in their territory. Furthermore, it orders Imperial Army units stationed on the planet to assist the ICMC in quelling the “Veronica Rebellion”.

18-20 Febrium - The remaining members of the delegation that delivered the “Citizens' Plea” petition to the Imperator are tried on charges of sedition, treason, and attempted murder of the Imperator. They are found guilty and executed.

21 Febrium - Late in the evening and after months of debate & compromise amoungst the members and with the resistance cell leaders, the Colonial Convention finalized the Declaration of Resistance and the Articles of Alliance.

Now united, they declare their resistance to Imperator and the Imperium of Zungzamia as an “Era of Defiance”. Seven members of the Zel’Koni Order, including a member of the Grand Assembly, are present to witness the event however do not commit aid to the Alliance or formally sign the Articles or the Declaration due to the Order’s unofficial stance of neutrality between the colonies and the Imperium. Later in the day the Imperator vows to crush the rebellion, capture as many as the traitorous leaders as possible and execute them for treason.
