Using mechanized ground troops from all five nations with close support from combat aircraft, the Confederation begins a conflict that will be remembered as “The Great War”.
Stunned by the swiftness of the invasion, the initial defenses in each of the three nations are quickly wiped out as each nation declares war on the Confederation. Two of the nations allied with Zungzamia fall completely to the Confederation in three months, while the remaining nation pleads with its ally for assistance, which the FRZ provides military arms.
27 Ainlifium-2 Twalifium – The third nation falls to the Durakane Confederation. Fearing a possible invasion, the Guardian of the Federal Republic of Zungzamia sends the nation’s top diplomat to negotiate however the Confederation takes the diplomat prisoner who dies under interrogation.

12 Trebrium - The body of the FRZ’s top diplomat is sent back to Omiris.
12 Tetribrium – The Durakane Confederation invades the Republic proper from multiple directions using many of the same mechanized ground troops initially used against the allied nations. Facing virtually no resistance from Zungzamia’s military, the invading forces move more than 200 kalimytors into FRZ territory in three weeks’ time.
6 Pentibrium – Shocked by the rapid pace of the invasion and after more than two weeks of debate and at the urging of the Guardian, the Republic Congress of the Federal Republic of Zungzamia declares war against the Durakane Confederation as a whole and each of the five nations that compose the alliance. Regardless of the declaration, Zungzamia, like its’ conquered allies, is unprepared for war.
Following a hasty and poorly organized build-up, the militaries of the Federal Republic counterattack the invasion forces but all efforts are rebuffed.

The Republic Congress enacts legislation which is signed by the Guardian that enables the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Zungzamia to gain more personnel by forcing the immediate enlistment of all persons, male and female, ages 20-70, into military service. The legislation allows there to be exemptions from service but these exemptions are very limited.
Congress also enacts legislation that transfers 90 percent of the funds in the Republic Space Agency’s budget to the Ministry of War effective immediately. Despite being a staunch advocate for the Space Agency, the Guardian signs the legislation into law providing more funding for the War Ministry however effectively cripples the RSA to the point of inoperability.

Battles of Durassi and Natochi: Confederation naval vessels bombard the Zungzamian coastal cities of Durassi and Natochi as prelude to landing troops, invading and capturing the ports and then attacking Omiris indirectly from the sea. the bombardment is interrupted when Zungzamian Republic Navy ships attack the Confederation fleet, decimating it and any hope of invasion from the sea.

3-23 Decimbrium – Battle of K’Sos: Republic forces defend the city of K’Sos, the capital of the Republic State of Norg, for twenty days against the Durakane Confederation. On the 12th day, Confederation forces break through the outer defenses and massacre 80% of the 78,000 defenders over the next seven days. The surviving defenders are captured along with the city.
24 Decimbrium – Massacre of K’Sos: Successfully defeating the city’s defenders Confederation forces execute nearly all of the Republic soldiers and officers that surrendered except for two officers and eight soldiers. The Confederation commander, already known to the FRZ as “The Butcher of Urbos Liberti”, orders the indiscriminate slaughter of the civilian population of K’Sos. Despite some civilians escaping the eleven-week slaughter more than ninety-five percent of the population is killed, much of it witnessed by the Republic Army survivors. During the slaughter, meticulous records are kept of the deaths that occur.

10 Ianuarum – At the end of the eleventh week of the “occupation” of K’Sos, the Confederation commander orders the release of the Republic Army prisoners. They are given copies of the records taken during the “occupation” of the city. The commander also orders the city burned to the ground. As the “occupation” forces leave the area the fires from the burning city set the forests near the city ablaze. The conflagration burns for weeks turning more than 2,500 square kalimytors into ash. Numerous villages and seven towns are partially or completely destroyed.
26 Trebrium – The Confederation records from the Massacre of K’Sos arrive at Omiris. The Guardian, the Minister of War, the Joint Commanders of the Armed Forces (JCAF) and other senior military officers view the records and are stunned by the massacre. Those members of the Republic Congress who must be informed about military matters are briefed about the massacre. The records are deemed secret however the public is informed of the massacre but not the extent of the atrocities committed. The surviving troops are sworn to secrecy under the penalty of life imprisonment.
14 Pentibrium-26 Senabrium – Battle of Yerem: Confederation ground and air forces attempt to capture the city of Yerem during six weeks of combat however FRZ forces are able to hold onto the city.
9 Ocktubrium – Confederation air forces begin bombing Omiris, devastating the capital. Whole neighborhoods are destroyed by the bombs and the firestorm that takes place. Many government buildings are hit including the Capitol Zila Maja.
11-18 Ocktubrium – The (Second) Exodus of the Government: The Republic Congress issues a resolution to recess the current session of Congress and reconvene in Kuvot in sixty days. The Congress also issues a resolution that orders the citizen-leader (mayor) of the Vabadusa Rajons to evacuate the citizens of Omiris as quickly and orderly as possible. These resolutions are signed by the Guardian of the Republic who at the same time issues a “Guardian’s Order” stating that all executive departments of the government except the Ministry of War are to evacuate to Kuvot and resume duties and operations there. The Magistrates of the Supreme Court of the Republic recess the current court session and follow the Republic Congress to Kuvot.
Despite the chaos of the exodus, as Commander-in-Chief of the Republic, the Guardian elects to stay in Omiris and take command of the Republic forces defending the city. He gives a written declaration to the Deputy Guardian that is to be given to the Speaker of Congress stating that if he, the Guardian, does not arrive in Kuvot seventy days after the exodus, the Deputy Guardian is to be sworn in as the Guardian of the Republic.
As the Confederation bombing raids continue, both Zila Maja and the Capitol are severely damaged and partially collapsed. The Confederation bombing runs occur unimpeded for more than three months until the Republic’s Air Force is able to contest the control of the skies above Omiris.
10 Decimbrium – Fifty-three (53) days after the end of the government’s evacuation to Kuvot, the Guardian arrives in the Vygerite capital to resume his duties.

Some members of the Zel’Koni Order emerge from their safe havens, move to Kuvot and the frontlines assisting the Republic military commanders in the war against the Confederation. In some cases, Zel’Koni Sentinels fight alongside Republic troops and in even rarer cases take command of Republic military units of various sizes.
2-10 Decimbrium – Battle of Midanos: The Republic Army engages Confederation ground forces in Midanos in a successful diversionary battle.
8-30 Decimbrium – Battle of Laco: Distracted by the engagement with Republic forces in Midanos, divisions of the Confederation ground forces clash with the National Army of the Republic at the city of Laco, the capital of the State of Jantia, approximately 30 kalimytors from Omiris. This will be the closest the Confederation ground forces will get to the Federal capital.

17 Trebrium-1 Tetribrium - Second Battle of Monoran: As Confederation forces are drawn away from the city, FRZ forces attack and ultimately, liberate the city.
By mid-year the Republic Air Force gains complete control of the skies above Omiris and expand their operations. As the year comes to an end the Republic is able to push Confederation ground forces out of the State of Jantia.

Trench warfare ensues. The government returns to Omiris and the remaining members of the Zel’Koni Order in hiding return to the Grand Hall in Nivo.

Trench warfare continues unabated on the Northern and Western Fronts and by mid-680 AF Republic advances are halted along the Eastern Front with trench warfare beginning there. Ceasefires are attempted but none lasting more than a month. A near constant air battle takes place in the skies over the frontlines. As the war drags on scientists in the Republic make startling discoveries about the atom.

18-30 Senabrium – Second Battle of Urbos Liberti: Confederation forces give limited resistance to the FRZ Army as it restores its control of Urbos Liberti.
10-11 Septimbrium – To avoid the loss of any more territorial gains the Durakane Confederation requests a temporary ceasefire which is established the next day between the FRZ and the Confederation in order for the negotiation of an armistice can be conducted.

1 Septimbrium – Five and a half years after the Armistice went into effect; the Republic requests that peace treaty negotiations begin at neutral site. The Confederation agrees however, negotiations on the site and the dates of the peace treaty negotiations take four years to establish.

12 Tetribrium – Fifty years after The Great War began and more than nine years after the New Year’s Day Armistice, the Federal Republic of Zungzamia and the Durakane Confederation agree on the site and the dates for the negotiations of a peace treaty between the two combatants.

22 Tetribrium – Three days before the peace treaty negotiations begin, the train transporting the Republic’s diplomats is ambushed and destroyed by Confederation aircraft within FRZ territory. The only survivors are a Zel'Koni Sentinel, his student Jaksa Zungzamius, and a junior aide to the chief negotiating diplomat.
The survivors travel to a nearby military outpost to provide initial reports of the ambush to their superiors. The Zel’Koni members then travel to Nivo to fully report on the incident to the Zel’Koni Order’s Grand Assembly and the aide reports to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Guardian in Omiris.
23 Tetribrium – Confederation forces cross the Armistice Line and engage Republic positions; re-igniting The Great War. FRZ forces are able to hold the Confederation advance on the eastern and northern fronts but lose ground in the west.
The Guardian is so enraged by the deaths of the diplomats, particularly the chief diplomat who was his youngest sister, that he meets his geleras on the frontline, ordering a massive attack on all fronts.
16 Pentibrium – Jaksa Zungzamius is bestowed upon him the title “Sentinel of the Order” by the Grand Assembly of the Zel’Koni Order upon his successful completion of the Sentinel Ordeals.
12 Senabrium – “The Guardian’s Mad Charge”: Lead by the Guardian himself, the attack begins before Early Sun, catching the Confederation frontlines off guard. By the end of the day, “The Charge” forces the Confederation’s center line and right flank to withdraw 80 km and the left flank 100 km along the Northern Front. Small gains are made on the Western Front. However, gains made by FRZ forces along the Eastern Front are even greater than those on the Northern Front.
With renewed morale, the Armed Forces of the Republic along all three fronts push the forces of the Durakane Confederation to within 25 kalimytors of pre-war national boundaries by the last day of the year.

New hope comes with the New Year. As Republic forces push the Confederation out of most of the territory of the Republic’s allies and the Republic’s New Territories, the Guardian and his geleras develop and refine a long-range plan for victory called “Operation Crush”.
The National Congress passes legislation to amend the constitution granting the Guardian of the Republic a life-term, during good behavior. The legislation allows for the states of the Republic to take twenty years to reach the three-quarter majority needed to pass the proposed amendment. Furthermore, it allows the current Guardian to retain his office until the passage of said amendment. If the proposed amendment fails to pass in the allotted time the elections for Guardian would occur as they would have without the proposed amendment.
16 Trebrium – Execution of “Operation Crush” begins on Constitution Day.
30 Novimbrium – All pre-war territory, including the territory of the three nations that had been initially invaded, is recovered.
The FRZ Air Force begins its aerial bombardment of military tagets in the Durakane Confederation member of Purdinia.
10 Decimbrium – The Republic's invasion of Purdinia begins. By the end of the year FRZ forces are 30 km into the Durakane Confederation country, attempting to seal the country’s borders with its allies.

Despite the invasion of their nation, the leaders of Purdinia refuse to negotiate. The Armed Forces of the Republic move further and further into Purdinia and its’ Confederation allies attempt to relieve the besieged country either by land, sea or air unfortunately all efforts fail. Even as their naval forces are destroyed, Purdinian leaders continually refuse to negotiate.
18 Pentibrium-6 Senabrium – First Battle of Diagan: FRZ and Confederation troops clash in the industrial city within the boundaries of Purdinia. Purdinia troops with allies hold onto the city which suffers significant battle damage.
14 Decimbrium-5 Ainlifium – Second Battle of Diagan: The Republic army clash with the city’s Purdinian defenders. Ultimately, the FRZ breaks through the Purdinia lines, enter and capture the city.

7 Twalifium - Near the end of the year, the Durakane Confederation aligned nation of Purdinia is completely conquered by the Federal Republic, splitting the Confederation in two, while 40% of Bishato is under the control of the FRZ.

12 Febrium – Under a gray banner of peace (or surrender), the senior commander of Bishato forces in Bishato, an ally of Purdinia, approaches the Zungzamian frontlines, surrenders himself, and gives a written invitation for FRZ troops to come to the capital of Bishato.
21 Trebrium – Three heavily armed Republic Army units are escorted by lightly armed Bishato Army units to the capital. Despite being in control of more than half of the country, the Król of Bishato offers an “Instrument of Surrender” to the FRZ gelera who accepts the surrender terms. The Król relinquishes governing authority to the FRZ gelera until a local civilian government can be established according to the terms of surrender. [‘Król’ is Polish for ‘king’.]

15 Ianuarum – The elderly Cornelius Paulus Zungzamius, serving as Guardian of the Federal Republic of Zungzamia, re-affirms his oath as Guardian of the Republic, beginning his life-term.
7-24 Twalifium – The Republic Armed Forces of the enter Vernond, the capital of Durakane. The city’s defenders make a fight of it and force some National Army units along the borders with the other allies to move to the city to reinforce those units fighting in Vernond. Combat takes place throughout the city over the next two and a half weeks.
17 Twalifium – Confederation forces attack the weakened Zungzamian lines within the borders of Durakane. Initially, the Republic is able to resist but are slowly pushed back.
24 Twalifium – Confederation forces press their attack and enter Durakane; advancing on Republic positions, pushing its forces into the interior of the country. Republic forces abandon their attack on Vernond to counter-attack the Confederation invasion.

15 Febrium – The Confederation advance is halted by FRZ forces. Over the next year and half the Federa Republic pushes the Confederation forces out of Durakane completely.

25 Ocktubrium – As other Republic units hold their positions within the borders of the other Confederation allies, the Republic units that initially entered Vernond return to the city.
11 Novimbrium – The Guardian of the Republic, Cornelius Paulus Zungzamius dies of natural causes at the age of 141. The Deputy Guardian takes the oath of office becoming the Guardian of the Federal Republic of Zungzamia.
16 Novimbrium – After lying in state under heavy guard at the partially repaired capitol building, Cornelius Paulus Zungzamius is laid to rest in the Zungzamius family crypt in the National Cemetery outside Omiris.
21 Novimbrium –The new Guardian speaks before the special session of Congress stating his belief that a male member of the Zungzamius family should and must be the Guardian of the Republic for life and requests that on behalf of the people of the Federal Republic that legislation be drafted, debated and voted on to create a hereditary line of succession for the Guardian of the Republic that is and forever will be a male of the Zungzamius family thus amending the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Zungzamia to establish such line on behalf of the people of the Republic.
22 Novimbrium – The constitutional amendement legislation to create a hereditary line of succession for the Guardian of the Republic is drafted and introduced in the full National Congress and for the next 15 days is vigorously debated on the floor of Congress.
4 Decimbrium – With no chance of being resupplied the remains of the Durakanite Army surrender with the highest ranking officer being the equivalent of an FRZ Army Locnelo.
7 Decimbrium – With debate on the proposed legislation concluded and the current Guardian present in the Capitol, the bill is voted on and passed with a three to one majority. The passed legislation is immediately sent to the states for ratification, limiting the timeframe to five years. If ratified the proposed amendment to the Constitution would establish a line of succession for the Guardian of the Republic and that the eldest male member of the Zungzamius family will be Guardian for as long as the Federal Republic of Zungzamia exists effective the 15th day of the first month of the year following ratification.

18 Tetribrium - Following a brutal hiems in which no progress is made by either side, the remaining Confederation forces attack all Zungzamian forces along all fronts at once, pushing Republic forces back into Durakane over the next eight weeks before it is halted.
10-19 Novimbrium - Battles of Kister and Vastus: Seven weeks into the Confederation assault and with assistance from the Republic Air Force, the Zungzamian Republic Navy performs two simultaneous amphibious assaults on two separate yet key Confederation naval ports. These successful invasions cut off supply lines for Confederation troops in Durakane. Republic National Army units in Zungzamia invade the Confederation nation of Fondelrun to reinforce the amphibious assault and beachhead at the ports.

15 Ianuarum – Moments after the official and public resignation of his father’s successor, former Republic Navy officer Nikolaus Cornelius Zungzamius takes the oath of office of Guardian of the Republic for Life in a huge, outdoor, well-planned and orchestrated inauguration ceremony on the steps of the Republic Capitol as its reconstruction continues.
Ainlifium - Siege of the Fondelrun capital of Wingree begins; lasting until 6 Senabrium of the next year.

Trebrium - As the siege of Wingree in Fondelrun continues, the Guardian and the JCAF develop post-surrender plans.
23 Trebrium – Nikolaus Cornelius Zungzamius, the Guardian of the Republic, authorizes the use of atomic weapons for the first time in combat in the hope of ending the war sooner but states that they are not to be used until the stated dates in the authorization.
15-20 Tetribrium – On the orders of their commanders in Omiris, FRZ forces withdraw from locations designated as targets for atomic weapons.
22 and 23 Tetribrium – To mark the 20th Anniversary of “The Ambush” and the “Armistice Line Crossing”, atomic weapons are used by the Federal Republic on cities of Desodee and Yu Paz with heavy Confederation military presence but are not the capitals of the remaining Confederation nations.
28 Tetribrium – The senior Confederation commanders request an immediate ceasefire with the Republic which is accepted.
7 Pentibrium – Witnessing the destructive power of the Federal Republic’s atomic weapons and their immediate aftermath, the leaders of Fondelrun and Za’No each decide to surrender unconditionally to the FRZ.
27 Pentibrium – Za’No formally surrenders to the Federal Republic of Zungzamia. Under the terms of the surrender treaty the armed forces of Za'No disband with the Republic's National Army providing ground-based security while the Republic Navy patrols the Za'Nite coast and the Republic Air Force patrols the skies.
6 Senabrium – Fondelrun formally surrenders to the Federal Republic of Zungzamia, officially ending The Great War. The Royal Military of Fondelrun officially dissolves under the treaty of surrender. The National Army of the Republic is charged with providing security on the ground while the Air Force patrols the skies above former kingdom.
Despite the end of the war, military personnel and ordinary civilians begin forming terrorist/resistance cells against the Zungzamian occupation in all five of the former Durakane Confederation nations. Initially these cells conduct civilan protests and disobedience. Over time they elevate their activities to hit-on-run attacks and random bombings of Republic positions, whether or not they are military or civilian, large or small, in the occupied territories and eventually in the Republic proper. This 60 year period and the events associated with it, is recorded in history as “The Torments” or “The Time of Torment”. The individuals and groups committing the attacks are referred to as “Tormentors”.

An allied nation of the Federal Republic dissolves its government and merges with Zungzamia. Over the next fifteen years eight other independent countries disband their governments and officially become a part of the FRZ.

13 Decimbrium – The Guardian of the Republic announces the true extent of the Massacre of K’Sos 100 years ago during The Great War. Furthermore, he announces that an Federal Park will be established at the site.

Nikolaus Cornelius Zungzamius, the Guardian of the Republic for Life, accepts a bejeweled saber from a local Omirian swordsmith in honor of the 50th Anniversary of his ascension as Guardian.

The FRZ military and Zungzamian citizens commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the end of The Great War. As part of the commemorations, the K’Sos Memorial Park is dedicated and opened to the public as a memorial to all who lost their lives during the war, not just those killed at the Massacre of K’Sos.
Fully organized and centralized, the tormentor cells in the occupied territories reach their height of influence and destructive capability. They make their first raids and bombings within the Republic proper, including several attacks in Omiris, the Republic’s Capital.

Members of the Republic Congress begin to comment on reforming the Republic’s form of government; turning more legislative power over to the Guardian.

The Congress of the Republic approves a bill creating a Constitutional Convention. The bill is signed into law by the Guardian. Throughout Zungzamia, state legislatures vote on delegates for the Convention.

22 Ainlifium – The Constitutional Convention opens in Kuvot, Vygeroa’s state capital, with delegates from 90 percent of the states of the Republic.

In a raid on their main headquarters outside Wingree, the former royal capital city of Fondelrun, FRZ Armed Forces gain a huge victory against the tormentors organization; killing nearly all of the senior leadership, throwing the organization into chaos.
The Constitutional Convention (of 788 AF) unanimously decides that the citizens of the Federal Republic of Zungzamia must be the individuals who ratify the Constitution of the Imperium of Zungzamia.

Throughout the Federal Republic of Zungzamia citizens vote in varying degrees of acceptance or dissent to adopt the Constitution of the Imperium of Zungzamia. The “Torments” continue but as time passes the populace rallies against them.

Year-long celebrations take place throughout the Republic celebrating the 800th Anniversary of founding of the Republic despite continued, yet diminished, terrorist attacks taking place within the Republic proper and the occupied territories.
4 Septimbrium – In several territories and states of the Republic, citizens vote on this day in the overwhelming majority to finally ratify the new Constitution of the Imperium of Zungzamia which will become the supreme law of the land at Midnight on New Year’s Day.
