In late 1979, composer Jerry Goldsmith was hired by original television series creator and producer of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Gene Roddenberry, to compose and conduct the movie's score. Prior to being hired for The Motion Picture, Mr. Goldsmith had many film accolades to his credit including: Stagecoach (1966), Our Man Flint (1966), Planet of the Apes (1968), Tora, Tora, Tora (1970), Patton (1970), Chinatown (1974), and The Omen (1976).
