Rick Berman and Brannon Braga created the fifth television series based on Star Trek
giving it the title Enterprise. Dennis McCarthy would be chosen again to compose a Main Title Theme for the
new series along with the music for the pilot episode, “Broken Bow”. The result, “Archer's
Theme”, would be used in the feature-length pilot however, not as the Main Title Theme. Prior to the series
premiere, the creators decided that they wanted to use an actual song, not an orchestral piece for the Main
Title Theme. The song that the creators chose is entitled “Where My Heart Will Take Me”, also known as
“Faith of the Heart”, written by Diane Warren and performed by Russell Watson. The series and the song
premiered on UPN on September 26, 2001.
A decision was made to alter the main title theme for the show's third season. This altered version
of the main title theme debuted during the season premiere on September 10, 2003. UPN executives felt that to tie the
show to the Star Trek franchise that the words “Star Trek” needed to be in the title. Thus,
Enterprise officially became Star Trek: Enterprise on October 1, 2003.
During the production of the series' fourth and final season, a dark alternate orchestral Main Title
Theme was composed by Dennis McCarthy and Kevin Kiner for the two-part episode(s) “In a Mirror, Darkly”.
The series would come to an end following the fourth season's finale on May 13, 2005.
