In order for Starfleet to conduct missions of space exploration and defend the colonies and other assets of the United Republic, Starfleet employs a small flotilla of ships which is growing every year. This flotilla is formed by the ships of the four active starship classes commissioned into Starfleet service along with three historical ship classes, one of which includes a major subclass. The entire flotilla is centered around the newest and largest class of ships built by the URZA—the Republic-class. The profiles provide a brief “biography” of the class along with a list of names & registry numbers for ships that are a part of the starship class being profiled. NOTE:  The Coventry, Valley Forge, & Surya–classes mentioned above are Franz Joseph inspired designs. The Surya–class is a speculative “Original Series” version of the the Miranda–class first seen in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
