Summarized History
Starships of the Kanaris-class entered into UFAR Starfleet service with the commissioning of the class prototype as URS Kanaris, bearing registry number RSX-1500 in 168 UA. Named for USS Kanaris, the Federation Starfleet ship that appeared in the outer regions of the home system in 288 EoD and capable of Warp 7, ships of this class were the most advanced ships of their time. The Kanaris itself would achieve its designed velocity of Warp 7 two years after its commissioning while transporting emergency medical supplies & personnel to the Union deep-space colony of Daxzia Rijade.
As more Kanaris-class ships entered service, they would supersede Zel'Koni-class as the fleet's designated cruiser for the United Republic.
