Summarized History

   Starships of the Union-class entered into UFAR Starfleet service with the commissioning of the class prototype as ARV Union, bearing registry number ISV-101 in 438 EoD. Named for the Union of Federal Alexandrian Republics and capable of Warp 5, ships of this class were the most advanced ships of their time and the culminiation of the efforts of “Project Explorer”. The Union itself would achieve its designed velocity of Warp 5 two years after its commissioning while transporting emergency medical supplies & personnel to the Union deep-space colony of Daxzia Rijade.

   As more Union-class ships entered service, they would supersede Explorer-class and Alexandrus-class ships as the “deep-space explorers” for the Union, initially then the United Republic.

   In 2 UA/452 EoD, two years after the formation of the United Republic of ZungAlexia, the URZA's new Ministry of Exploration and Protection established a new classification system for all space craft under its' authority in accordance with the “Home Sector Defense and Space Exploration Act”. All space craft under its' authority were re-commissioned by the Ministry with the ship prefix ‘URS’ for “United Republic Ship”. Furthermore, the registries of former UFAR Starfleet, now URZA Starfleet, vessels were changed from ‘ISV’ to ‘RSC’.

   During the service life of the class, there would be at least one subclass. This subclass would have secondary hull attached by a connecting dorsal structure to the ventral side of the main hull. This secondary hull housed a Warp 6 engine core, improved sensor systems and an enlarged & more powerful navigational deflector used in concert with the main hull deflector.

   Following the introduction of the URZA's Tulemaa and Zel'Koni-class starships, the Union-class would be retired by 125 UA.
