The United Republic Home Sector Force (HSF), along with the civilian-led Ministry of Exploration & Protection; was created under the Home Sector Defense and Space Exploration Act in 1 UA/451 EoD. The “D & E” merged all of the planetary defense forces in the star system into one division of the Ministry. The sole mission of the HSF is to defend the star system and the surrounding sector of space from external attack and internal conflict. To accompish this mission, HSF is divided into four primary commands each led by a primary command officer. These officers report to the Commander of the Home Sector Force (COMHSF) who inturn reports to the Minister of Exploration & Protection and the President of the United Republic.
The HSF Ground Command functions as the “Army” of the HSF. Its' primary mission is the defense of the ground surface of the habitable planets and moons of the ZungAlexian star system.
The HSF Naval Command functions as the “Navy” of the HSF. Its' primary mission is the defense of the waters of the habitable planets and moons of the ZungAlexian star system.
The defense of the skies of each habitable planet and moon in the star system is the responsibility of HSF's Atmo Command.
The defense of the interplanetary space within the star system and the cubic area of space measuring 5x5x5 light–years from the star falls under the authority of HSF's Stellar Command. To accomplish this ongoing defense mission, the Stellar Command utilizes the various ships of its’ Sector Patrol Fleet (SPF). The SPF utilizes four spacecraft classes of varying capability and are divided into two groups, the System Patrol Group (SysPat) and the Sector Patrol Group (SecPat). The area of responsiblity for each group is determined by the star system's termination shock; some 85 Astronomical Units from the star.
