24th Century

NCC-1701-C  By 2344, an Ambassador class vessel had the name.  In that year, NCC-1701-C received a distress signal from the Klingon outpost on the planet Narendra III.  Enterprise-C was nearly destroyed defending the outpost from four Romulan Warbirds.  During the battle it is possible that Enterprise was traveled 22 years into the future, causing an alternate timeline.  In this alternate time, the Federation was at war with the Klingon Empire.  A war that the Federation was losing.  Also, the chief of security of the Enterprise-D was Lt. Natasha Yar, who had died two years earlier in the correct timeline.  While in the altered timeline, Enterprise-C and -D were attacked by two Klingon Birds-of-Prey.  The attack caused the death of the Enterprise-C's commander, Captain Rachel Garrett.  The Ambassador class vessel did eventually return to her own time but with Lt. Yar from the Enterprise-D.  Crewmembers of the ship were captured and for almost twenty-five years later, rumors persisted that there were survivors from the attack, but the rumors are unconfirmed.

NCC-1701-D  One year after the incident at Narendra III, the Advanced Starship Design Bureau began the Galaxy Class Development Project.  By 2358, the prototype vessel was commissioned and launched as USS Galaxy, bearing the registry number NX-70637. On October 4, 2363 (Stardate 40759.5), the fifth starship to bear the name Enterprise was launched from Utopia Plantia Yards registered as NCC-1701-D. Between Stardates 41148 and 48650.1, Jean-Luc Picard, formerly of the USS Stargazer, commanded the ship through many missions and first encounters. During the ship's short, yet illustrious career, first contact was made with the Q, the Ferengi, the Borg and many other species. Like the original Enterprise, the Enterprise -D crossed the Romulan Neutral Zone on several occasions. After the tragic loss of 40 starships to the Borg at the Battle of Wolf 359, Enterprise and her crew were able to prevent the assimilation of Earth in early 2367. During the Klingon civil war of 2367-8, the Enterprise and 24 other Federation starships stopped the continued involvement of the Romulan Empire, which was supplying the Duras family and it's supporters. Between Stardates 46357.4 and 46360.8, in 2369, Enterprise-D was under the temporary command of Captain Edward Jellico, during armistice negotiations with the Cardassians. In late 2369 and early 2370, the Enterprise and its crew encountered a renegade group of Borg drones lead by Lore, the android brother of Lt. Commander Data.

The sisters of Duras, Lursa and B'Etor, got their revenge against the Enterprise in 2371 for it's involvement in the Klingon civil war. The sisters teamed up with an El-Aurian scientist, named Dr. Tolan Soran. Dr. Soran was aboard the refugee vessel Lakul in 2293 when the ship encountered an energy ribbon, known as the Nexus. Soran was one of the 47 refugees saved by the Enterprise-B. Despite being saved, Soran became obsessed with getting back to the Nexus. His "alliance" with the Duras sisters got him to the final stages of his plan to reenter the Nexus. The sisters, aboard a Bird-of-Prey, were able to penetrate the shields of the Enterprise-D by Soran's ability to tap into the visual prosthetic of the the ship's chief engineer, Lt. Commander Geordi LaForge. The VISOR transmitted the Enterprise's shield frequency without his knowledge. A battle ensued in orbit of Veridian III, in which the Enterprise won. Unfortunately the victory was short lived. An explosion in Engineering lead to the separation of the saucer module and warp core breach which destroyed the battle section. A subspace shockwave created by the core breach slammed into the saucer, causing it to crash on the planet's surface. The saucer section of the ship was unsalvageable. Dr. Soran's efforts to return to the Nexus also went unfulfilled due to the efforts of the ship's captain, Jean-Luc Picard and those of another Enterprise captain, James T. Kirk. Kirk was not killed aboard Enterprise-B, as believed, but was sucked into the Nexus were he stayed until he was brought into the present day with Picard. Kirk died on the surface of Veridian III but not before Soran was killed when his solar probe was destroyed on the launch pad. The crew was picked up by the USS Farragut, a Nebula-class ship, and two other Federation starships.

NCC-1701-E   Less than one year later on Stardate 49027.5, Starfleet commissioned and launched the sixth starship to bear the name Enterprise, with Captain Jean-Luc Picard in command. This vessel, registered as NCC-1701-E, is a Sovereign Class starship. In 2373 the Borg attempted a second invasion of Federation space. As during the first invasion, the Borg passed into Earth's solar system before the Enterprise could arrive. Captain Picard took command of the fleet battling the Borg vessel during this second attempt to assimilate Earth. The Borg vessel was destroyed but not before launching a new ship in the shape of a sphere. This sphere created a temporal vortex to travel back in time. The Enterprise pursued the ship into the past. Upon the ship's arrival, the Borg vessel was firing weapons at Earth's surface. Enterprise responded to the attack by firing it's quantum torpedoes, destroying the sphere. After determining the location that the Borg were firing on, the crew discovered that they were in the mid-21st Century with the date being April 4, 2063; one day before Earth's first official contact with an alien race. This date marked Earth's first faster-than-light space flight, made by scientist Dr. Zefram Cochrane. Prior to the Borg sphere's destruction, the Borg transported to the Enterprise in their continued attempt to prevent First Contact. Their mission was stopped by the Enterprise crew on Earth, in space and onboard the ship. Dr. Cochrane's warp ship, the Phoenix, made it's short voyage in subspace and history continued uninterrupted. The Enterprise returned to the 24th Century.

Two years later the ship was on a diplomatic mission when it received a communication from Admiral Dougherty of Starfleet. Dougherty was assigned as a liaison between the Federation and the Son'a in studying a race known as the Ba'ku. Dougherty's message to Enterprise was that Lt. Commander Data was malfunctioning and he required Data's schematics. Captain Picard found this unusual and decided to head to the Ba'ku planet in the Briar Patch. After the ships arrival and the recovery of Data, the crew discovered that there was a conspiracy to move the Ba'ku civilization off the planet so that the Son'a could collect the metaphasic particles in the planet's rings. Unfortunately, the procedure would destroy the planet's ecosystem, making the planet uninhabitable for generations. Picard decide he alone would help the Ba'ku, his crew disobeyed his orders and assisted their captain and the Ba'ku. While most of the senior officers on the planet's surface, the Enterprise, under the command of it's first officer, Commander William T. Riker, proceeded out of the Briar Patch to make contact with the Federation Council, to "put a face on the Ba'ku". Before they could get clear of the Briar Patch, Enterprise was intercepted by Son'a ships and was attacked. Enterprise and her crew were victorious but at the cost of the ship's warp core, which was used to seal a subspace tear created by subspace weapons fired by the Son'a. Captain Picard and his officers on the surface were mostly successful in preventing the capture of the Ba'ku, despite his capture. Captain Picard was personally responsible for the destruction of the particle collector by activating the collector's self-destruct system. The Ba'ku were returned to their planet.

In 2379, USS Enterprise detects a positronic energy signature in the Kolarun system, while in route to Betazed for the Betazoid wedding ceremony of Commander Riker and Counselor Troi. The ship alters course for Kolarus III which is very near the Romulan Neutral Zone. Upon arrival at the planet, it's discovered that there is an disassembled Soong-type android on the surface, which an away team recovers and returns to the ship with it. While reassembling and activating the android known as B-4, Enterprise is ordered by Admiral Kathryn Janeway; the former Captain of the Starship Voyager; to Romulus on a diplomatic mission to discuss peace with the new leader of the Romulan Star Empire. The ship arrives at Romulus on Stardate 56844.9 and is forced to wait in orbit for 17 hours before they are contacted. A huge vessel decloaks in front of Enterprise, hails the ship, and is identified by the Reman Viceroy as the Scimitar. An away team beams over and meets the new Preator, whose name is Shinzon.
It's determined that Shinzon is a clone of Captain Picard and was created by the Romulans to insert a spy within the Federation. The leadership changed on Romulus and the plan was aborted. While still a child, Shinzon was sent to Remus, the sister planet of Romulus, to live and work in the dilithium mines. Eventually he became the leader of the Remans, developed an alliance with members of the Romulan military and one senator. To secure their allegiance and loyalty he convinces them that he will destroy Earth, allowing for an invasion of the Federation which would be crippled. His allies implemented a coup he devised in order to become Preator, or leader, of the entire Romulan Star Empire.
After the initial encounter and dinner between him and Captain Picard, Counselor Troi is telepathically assaulted by Shinzon and his Reman Viceroy. Also, B-4 downloads data from the ship's computers, which is discovered by the ship's crew. B-4 is deactivated and Data is transported over to the Reman ship acting like B-4. Data assists Captain Picard in his escape after he was captured by Shinzon in order for him to utilize Picard's blood to survive. Upon Picard and Data's return, Enterprise swiftly departs for the Neural Zone and Federation space. With Shinzon in command, the Scimitar pursues and attacks Enterprise under cloak, forcing Enterprise out of warp. The ship attempts a counterattack but is unsuccessful. Two Romulan vessels decloak and join in the battle; on the side of Enterprise. Despite the perfect cloak on the Scimitar, the ship does lose that advantage but not before one of the Romulan ships is destroyed, the other is heavily damaged and the Enterprise loses its shields. After the shields fall the ship was boarded, but Commander Riker, Lt. Commander Worf and several Enterprise security personnel contain the boarding party. As this is going on aboard the ship, the fight continues out in space. With shields down, the hull is damaged and hole is blasted into the front of the bridge. Captain Picard decides to something that Shinzon couldn't predict. He orders all power diverted to the impulse engines and Counselor Troi to set a collision course into the Scimitar at full impulse. Scimitar attempts to move out of the way, but Enterprise collides with the ship. Shinzon orders full reverse after the collision and the two ships separate. With both ships now disabled, Shinzon ordered the activation of ship's Thalaron radiation generator to destroy Picard's ship. In what would have been a final, desperate act, Captain Picard attempts to activate the ship's auto-destruct sequence in the hope that the destruction of Enterprise would also destroy Shinzon and his ship. Unfortunately, the destruct sequence is damaged and can't be activated. Captain Picard then grabs a phaser rifle and beams over the Scimitar, leaving Data in command without transporters. Data hands command over to Counselor Troi and leaves the Enterprise through the torn hull and boards the Scimitar from space. Aboard the Scimitar, Captain Picard makes his way through the ship killing much of the crew. When he gets to the ship's bridge, he eliminates the bridge crew and ends up in hand-to-hand combat with Shinzon. Shinzon is killed but Picard is pinned between a bulkhead and Shinzon's dead body. Data appears before Picard and moves Shinzon's body, slaps an emergency transport beacon on Picard, who beams back to the Enterprise. Data fires his phaser at the Thalaron generator, destroying the generator and sacrificing himself to save his friends and Earth. Enterprise returns to Earth for repairs. Riker is promoted to Captain. He and Counselor Troi depart Enterprise for their new starship home, the USS Titan.
