In the year 2233, an alien vessel appears through a “lightning storm” in space, directly in the path of a Federation ship on patrol. The appearance of this alien ship alters the flow of time; creating the Kelvin Timeline of events within Star Trek canon. Events occurring in this alternate timeline are documented here with the notation of 'KT' next to the year to indicate that the events of that year occurred in the Kelvin Timeline.
2233 (KT)
4 January — USS Kelvin (NCC-0514) encounters and is attacked by a Romulan mining vessel from the future called Narada. Kelvin's captain, Robau, is murdered by Narada's captain, Nero. Kelvin's first officer, Lt. George Kirk orders the evacuation of the Kelvin. The ship's crew escapes as George Kirk rams the Kelvin into the Narada, disabling it. James T. Kirk is born on one of Kelvin's escaping shuttles.
2255 (KT)
After losing a barfight in Iowa, 22 year old James T. Kirk is challenged by Starfleet Captain Christopher Pike to join Starfleet by attending Starfleet Academy. Kirk accepts the challenge, claiming he will graduate in three years. Kirk meets Leonard McCoy.
2258 (KT)
Ambassador Spock arrives in this year from the primary timeline. He and his ship are
captured by the Narada. Nero maroons Spock on Delta Vega.
At Starfleet Academy, Kirk beats the Kobayashi Maru scenario on the third attempt by
cheating; is charged with academic dishonesty and a hearing is conducted. During the hearing Kirk meets
Commander Spock however, the hearing is interrupted by a distress call from Vulcan. The new USS Enterprise
(NCC-1701) is commissioned with Pike in command. McCoy sneeks Kirk onboard and the fleet heads to Vulcan
but Enterprise is delayed.
Upon arrival, Enterprise discovers the fleet is destroyed and the Narada
is drilling into Vulcan. Enterprise is temporarily disabled and Pike surrenders himself. Nero orders
red matter from Spock's ship fired into Vulcan's core, destroying the planet however, Enterprise
escapes.
For disobeying orders and attempting to mutiny, Kirk is ejected from Enterprise
via escape pod and lands on Delta Vega. He meets Amassador Spock from the primary timeline and Montgomery
Scott. Ambassador Spock beams Kirk and Scott aboard Enterprise. Kirk releaves Commander Spock of
command and takes the ship to Earth. Together Kirk and Commander Spock rescue Pike, save Earth and destroy
the Narada. Pike is promoted to Admiral, Kirk graduates from the Academy, is promoted to Captain,
and given command of the Enterprise as Commander Spock becomes his first officer.
2259 (KT)
USS Enterprise is seen by a pre-industrial humanoid society and prevents the destruction
of the society by a natural disaster; violating the Prime Directive. Kirk and Spock are severely disiplined
with Kirk losing command of the Enterprise and Spock being transferred to a science vessel. However,
prior to such actions occuring a high-level conference takes place at Starfleet Headquarters with Admirals
Pike and Marcus present. The conference is attacked and Pike is killed. Marcus informs Kirk after the attack
that the attacker is believed to be a former Starfleet officer named John Harrison but does not know his location.
Chief Engineer Scott is able to determine Harrison's location on the Klingon homeworld. Kirk requests and
is granted permission by Marcus to hunt down Harrison, regain command of the Enterprise, and Spock as
his first officer. Prior to departure from Earth, Commander Scott resigns as Chief Engineer after he refuses
to allow 72 specialized torpedoes onboard. As the torpedoes are loaded, a specialist by the name of Dr. Carol
Marcus, daughter of Admiral Marcus, boards the Enterprise.
While en route to Qo'noS, Enterprise is forced to drop out of warp due to a coolant
leak.
Kirk, Spock and Uhura travel to Kronos using a impounded freighter to locate Harrison on
the planet while Enterprise sits at the border armed with the specialized torpedoes. The trio is attacked
by Klingon warriors but Harrison arrives, saving them. Upon coming to their rescue and learning that Enterprise
is armed with the torpedoes, Harrison immediately surrenders to trio, who take him into custody and return to
the Enterprise. Under questioning Harrison identifies himself as Khan Noonien Singh, a 20th
Century, genetically-modified tyrant and the reasons he was “alive” in the 23rd Century
which were ultimately confirmed by the “war-hawk” Admiral Marcus, who had arrived aboard the secretly
built dreadnought-type starship USS Vengeance. Instead of surrendering Khan to the Admiral, Kirk orders
the Enterprise to Earth at maximum warp.
While enroute to Earth, Enterprise is attacked by the Vengeance, forced out of
warp near Earth's moon and severely damaged. The attack is haulted once Carol Marcus contacts her father informing
him that she is onboard Enterprise. Admiral Marcus beams his daughter onboard the Vengeance and
orders the Enterprise destroyed however, before a single shot can be fired, Vengeance's power and
weapons are shutdown by Commander Scott who had secretly boarded the Vengeance at its' Jupiter drydock
before the ship's encounter with Enterprise. Khan and Kirk board Vengeance via spacesuit flight
and airlock, with assistance from Scott. Khan, Kirk, and Scott make it to the Vengeance bridge where Khan
betrays Kirk and kills Admiral Marcus. Khan threatens to kill Kirk, Scott and Carol if the torpedoes with his
people in stasis in them to him. Commander Spock contacts Prime Universe Ambassador Spock for guidance, which
the Ambassador provides. Simultaneous exchange occurs between Khan and Spock, the torpedoes for Kirk &
company. However, Spock double-crosses Khan; detonating the torpedoes, disabling the Vengeance but the
lives of Khan's “family” are spared due to Spock removing the cryotubes from the torpedoes before
the transfer.
2260 (KT)
Following the completion of repairs, USS Enterprise begins its five-year deep space exploratory mission “...To explore strange, new worlds; to seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no one has gone before”.
2263 (KT)
Three years into its five year mission of exploration, Enterprise and its crew is ordered
to investigate the disappearence of the USS Franklin (NX-326) and its crew in the Gagarin Radiation Belt
more than a century ago. While conducting the investigation, Enterprise is attacked by an initally unknown
hostile force. This hostile group and their small ships disable and board Enterprise with the ship barely
firing a shot. The hostile ships severe the warp engine nacelles from the ship and penetrate through the connecting
dorsal, severing the saucer from the engineering hull. the Enterprise crew abandon ship on Kirk's order but are
captured in their “Kelvin pods”, individual escape pods as the saucer crashes onto the planet's surface.
Yorktown station shipyards build the latest Constitution-class starship. Once completed,
the ship is launched and commissioned as USS Enterprise, the second ship to bear the name and bearing the registry
number NCC-1701-A, placed under the command of James T. Kirk.
