History of Ships Named... Enterprise
Space Vessels

22nd Century

XCV-330    Five years after humanity's first faster-than-light space flight conducted by Zefram Cochrane; the United States of America, one of the few nation-states to survive World War III, began work on building its own faster-than-light ship. After years of design and construction, in early 2087, the warp-ship is catagorized by NASA as an “Experimental Coleopteric Vehicle&rdquo and will bear the hull code of ‘XCV’. 18 months later in mid-2088, the ship is launched bearing registry number XCV-325. The ship undergoes lengthy shakedown period, including numerous warp flights. The ship is commissioned and enters into service as U.S.S. Declaration in mid-2091 becoming the prototype of its Declaration-class starliner warp-ships. Five more ships are built over the next 15 years. After numerous delays, in mid-2106, the United States commissions the sixth ship of the Declaration-class as USS Enterprise, bearing registry number XCV-330.

The Enterprise would serve the nation for mere five years until 2111 when the United State becomes part of the North America Federation (NAF). The Enterprise and her sister ships are transferred to the United Earth Space Probe Agency in the same year as part of the United States' transistion into the NAF (one of several precursors to the United Earth government). UESPA re-registers the surviving Declaration-class starliners, including Enterprise, and changes their prefixes from ‘USS’ to ‘UESP’. Bearing registy number NC-7, Enterprise would serve UESPA until October 2129. The very next year in 2130, a private corporation purchased the Enterprise and two other Declaration-class starliners to upgrade them to provide passenger transport between Earth and Alpha Centauri. In 2135, after five years of upgrades, which enlarge the vessel to transport up to 250 passengers, the former XCV-330, re-launches as S.S. Enterprise, bearing registry number NF-37. Enterprise would have successful career as a passenger vessel until 2148 when a malfunction led to the creation of a wormhole before the ship's warp engine could be shut down. After basic repairs were made, the ship continued its journey back to Earth but at slower warp velocities. Once the ship returned in early 2150 and after several through examinations by the private corporation and UESPA, the private corporation decommissioned S.S. Enterprise and returned the ship to UESPA for restoration.

NOTE:   The history of XCV-330, provided above, is completely speculative, if not imaginative, on the part of webmaster. History of this vessel within Star Trek canon is sparse (to say the least). More information is available in the Memory Alpha article about the XCV-330, by following this link.

NX-01   Eighty-eight years after humans achieved warp speed flight on 05 April 2063, Earth launched its first starship capable of reaching Warp 5. Earth's Starfleet commissioned this vessel as Enterprise with a registry number of NX-01 and the first ship of what would become Earth's NX-class of starships. Enterprise was launched in April 2151 with Captain Jonathan Archer in command. During it's first year of service, the ship's crew has made first contact with a half dozen species, notably the Andorians. During that first contact, the ship's crew revealed that the Vulcans were using a sacred shrine as a listening post against the Andorians. On 9 February 2152, Enterprise achieved Warp 5, while on a mission to deliver a Vulcan ambassador back to Vulcan. In March of the same year, the crew of Enterprise believed that they caused the death of 3,600 Paraagan colonists. Upon further investigation, the crew determined that the Suliban were involved in the colony's destruction. Enterprise was attacked and captured by the Suliban, but the ship and it's crew escaped by faking a warp core breach.

Approximately a month later, Enterprise was approaching a planet to enter orbit when it struck a cloaked mine. The ship was heavily damaged by the mine. A second mine had attached itself to the ship, but was later removed from the ship as well as the piece of hull plating that it was attached and detonated. While an attempt to disarm the mine was taking place, an unknown vessel appeared in the minefield in Enterprise's flight path. The ship, along with the mines, were later identified as Romulan. Enterprise escaped before being fired upon by two Romulan ships. After four days of repairs, Captain Archer decided to send out a general distress call. The call was answered by a Tellarite freighter, which directed them to an automated repair facility. The facility performed three months of repairs in about a day and a half. As the repairs were underway, the station captured Enterprise's helmsman, Ensign Travis Mayweather to add his neuralogical computational power to augment the station's capabilities. The crew would discover that Mayweather was missing and searched for him. Once found, the crew discovered Mayweather was attached to the station along with other humanoid species who could not be removed but the helmsman was recovered and returned to NX-01. To prevent any other species from falling into the station's trap, Enterprise destroyed it as the ship departed.

In March 2153, Enterprise was recalled to Earth following an attack from unknown vessel that self-destructs after the attack. The attack cuts a path 4,000 kilometers long, killing seven million. Wreckage from the vessel was recovered and taken to Starfleet Headquarters for examination. While en route home, Captain Archer is briefly kidnapped by the Suliban. In Suliban custody, Archer meets “a man from the future” who claims that a race known as the Xindi are responsible for the attack and plan to destroy Earth with a larger weapon with the goal of eradicating the Human species before Humans destroy them. Archer is returned to his ship with this skeptical story and NX-01 continues its' journey home. Following Enterprise's return, the ship is retrofitted over the next month with enhanced hull plating and photonic torpedoes. As the ship is retrofitted, examination of the wreckage proves the story Archer is told is true and the Vulcan Ambassador provides information about the dangerous region space that the Xindi homeworld is supposed to be in, a region called the Delphic Expanse. Despite the potential danger and with the retrofit complete, Starfleet orders Archer and his crew to search for the Xindi and their weapon.

Months into the search for the Xindi and their weapon in the Delphic Expanse, Enterprise would make contact and learn that the Xindi were made up of five different species. While continuing the search for and later locating the weapon meant to destroy Earth, the crew of NX-01 learn that the Xindi had an ally—a species from a trans-dimensional realm who are a faction in the Temporal Cold War and referred to as “The Guardians” by the Xindi. The goal of “The Guardians”, referred to as the “Sphere-Builders” by Enterprise's crew; was to invade and colonize local normal space. In order to due this, large spheres were built to generate spatial anamolies and thermobaric clouds that could sustain the Sphere-Builders. Archer would learn of these plans and share his evidence with the Xindi, convincing three of the species — the Primates, the Aboreals, and the Aquatics — to assist in the weapon's destruction. During the attempt to destroy the weapon the other species — the Reptilians and the Insectoids — took possession of the weapon and headed to Earth. Enterprise and its Xindi allies pursue the other Xindi and the weapon to Earth and a team from Enterprise, led by Archer, board the weapon and Enterprise heads to one of the primary spheres and ultimately destroys it and the entire sphere network with great difficulty. The weapon is destroyed just moments before it fires on Earth but it is believed that Archer is killed in the explosion. The Enterprise is picked up by the Aquatics and transported to Earth.

Upon returning to Earth, it is discovered that the ship and crew have travelled through time to the year 1944 and World War II. Events of World War II had been altered by a group of time-traveling aliens known as the Na'kuhl, led by Vosk, who were another faction in the Temporal Cold War. Former crewmember Daniels, a member of yet another Temporal Cold War faction, caused the Enterprise to travel to the altered 1944 and stop Vosk's return to a 29th Century in which Na'Kuhl won the Temporal Cold War. Captain Archer, who had not been killed aboard the Xindi weapon, and his crew successfully prevent Vosk's return to the future, restore the timeline; ending the Temporal Cold War and return to their own time, moments after the destruction of the Xindi weapon. Upon returning to Earth, Enterprise undergoes major repairs while Captain Archer is debriefed concerning events during the mission in the Delphic Expanse. Enterprise's Vulcan Science Officer T'Pol and Chief Engineer Commander Charles 'Trip' Tucker visit Vulcan, while there T'Pol marries her fiance.

Arik Soong's children, now grown, capture a Klingon Bird-of-Prey. Soong is released from prison to assist in their capture, under the supervision from Archer and Enterprise. Soong escapes while at an Orion slave trading post, rejoining his Augments and attack Cold Station 12 (C-12) to retrieve more embryos. Enterprise arrives but is unable to prevent the escape of the Augments and Soong. Prior to their escape, an Augment named Malik steals a bio-toxin from C-12. Malik replaces his "father" as commander and locks Soong up in his quarters. Soong escapes with assistance and notifies Archer that Malik intends to attack a Klingon colony with the bio-toxin. Enterprise successfully prevents the colony's destruction, the Bird-of-Prey is destroyed with most of the Augments on board, Malik is killed by Archer aboard Enterprise. Soong is returned to prison where he begins his pursuit of cybernetics and artifical lifeforms.

Between 2156 and 2160, Earth and its allies of Andoria, Tellar and Vulcan engaged in an interstellar war begun by the Romulan Star Empire. Enterprise, along with her NX-class sister ships, would be at the forefront of the conflict. The war would end at the Battle of Cheron, resulting in the defeat of the Romulan Empire and a peace treaty agreed to over subspace radio. The treaty established a neutral zone between the two sides and the Romulan Empire began a period of isolation that would last for over 100 years.

In April 2161, following a decade of service to United Earth's Starfleet, Enterpise, Earth's first ship capable of Warp 5, was decommissioned. In October of the same year, Earth and its wartime allies came together in the city of San Fransicsco on Earth and established the United Federation of Planets.
