2001: September 11 - The nation state of the United States of America is attacked by terrorists who use airplanes as their weapons. The attacks resulted in the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York City and damage to part of the US Defense Department building, known as the Pentagon.
2002: NASA space probe Voyager 2 leaves Earth's solar system.
2003: February 1 - America's Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrates while returning to Earth. Among the crew of seven astronauts was Ilan Ramon, an Air Force Colonel and the first citizen from the nation-state of Isreal.
2005: July 26 - Space Shuttle Discovery, OV-104, launches from Cape Canaveral, Florida USA. The event marks the beginning of America's "Return to Space". Discovery remained in orbit for nearly 14 days, landing at Edwards Air Force Base, California on August 9.
2011: Officially known as the Space Transportation System, the Space Shuttle program comes to an end with the final flights of the remaining shuttles; Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavour, after 30 years of service to NASA and the United States.
2012: NASA space probe Voyager 1 leaves Earth's solar system. By the end of the year, the surviving Orbiter Vehicles from NASA's Space Shuttle program are "decommissioned" and transported to their final destinations as museums across the American nation.
2018: The Dax symbiont is born on Trill.
2026: Joe DiMaggio's hitting record is broken by Buck Bokai, a shortstop from the London Kings. Rising tensions over the issues of genetic manipulation and enhancement escalate into nuclear holocaust and genocidal war, beginning World War III.
2032: Despite, or because of, the fact that WWIII was occurring; the International Space Agency
with assistance from NASA launches the Ares mission to Mars, with Ares IV arriving in mid-October.
October 19 - Mars probe Ares IV
disappears in Martian orbit, stranding two astronauts on the surface until a rescue vessel arrives from Earth.
2053: A peace treaty is signed in San Francisco ending Earth's devastating World War III. At its' end, many of the world's major governments and cities are destroyed and 600 million people are dead.
2061: Zefram Cochrane invents faster-than-light travel using subspace; a spatial continuum with significantly different properties from normal space. He also invents the first engine that is capable of faster-than- light travel.
2063: April 5 - Zefram Cochrane pilots the first space vehicle equipped with warp drive. The development of the faster-than-light drive is a crucial milestone in human history. Later that day a Vulcan spacecraft lands on Earth, establishing humankind's first official contact with an extraterrestrial intelligence.
2065: S.S. Valiant is lost near the edge of the galaxy.
2079: Earth continues to recover from the post atomic horror, a recovery spawned by Cochrane's flight.
2088: Future Enterprise (NX-01) science officer T'Pol is born on Vulcan.
