   In late 1979, composer Jerry Goldsmith was hired by the producer of Star Trek: The Motion Picture and original television series creator, Gene Roddenberry, to compose and conduct the movies' score. Prior to being hired for The Motion Picture, Jerry Goldsmith had many film accolades to his credit, including: Stagecoach (1966), Our Man Flint (1966), Planet of the Apes (1968), Tora, Tora, Tora (1970), Patton (1970), Chinatown (1974), and The Omen (1976).
